Back to minimalism and defining it. On my quest to a more minimal life virtual and analog I have been consuming more minimalist content, mainly Youtube. I have been watching an ultra minimalist or that's what she calls herself and she is right to do so as she is what I would describe as an ultra minimalist.
Most shocking to me, she doesn't own a computer which for me would be the end of my sanity if I didn't have at least Linux based system to use. On that subject, I have been thinking of experimenting wit a desktop focused VPS, would it be fast enough for my requirements? This will be a topic for a later post.
So, this lady is an ultra minimalist which in some way is appealing to me and in other ways maybe not so much, mainly computers and tech related items. Her only tech items is her iphone which she does everything on, even edit her Youtube videos which are surprisingly well done.
Her latest video at the time of writing this was a tour of her new apartment which was virtually empty but had just enough to make it home.
My take away from this video was this question "Why do we have multiples of the same thing?" Here I'm talking about, towels, cups, glasses, plates etc all those household items that just seem to accumulate. Now if you have a large family or often entertain guests you would have enough of these items to cover your needs.
But I am one person and a small cat, I don't need 22 dinner plates numerous cups, glasses and cutlery and two cupboards full of towels and blankets and everything else that gets stuffed in a linen cupboard. No, I just need the minimal amount that fits my needs and of course my cat.
Though ultra minimalism is in some way inviting, bur for me as of now I will work to a minimal life that fits my needs and of course my cat as well.
